MLZD Architects is an architecture studio based in Bienne, Switzerland. In 2002 they won a project for the extension of the Wettingen School. The old cafetaria of the school was too small, so they built a new cafetaria according to the typology of the existing building.
The building envelope, composed of a homogeneous coverage of black anodized aluminum sheets, plays with the light that seeps between the silhouettes of the flowers and leafs cutout of the aluminum sheets. The new cafeteria has a rural character which is part of the conceptual and formal analogy with the traditional farm, which makes the volume, types and structural features of the interior space.
